California (and Nevada, Arizona) in March and April

We’ll be going to L.A. end of march for three to four weeks. The first two weeks we’ll be staying in L.A. (visiting, free accommodation) but we also want to explore around for one to two weeks afterwards. We’re from Europe and not sure when we’ll get the chance to come back, so we want to plan properly

We are very interested in national parks, be both love to hike, but March and April is still Winter, and we’re no extreme hiker. I also love the ocean and surfing, but I’ll probably be able to satisfy this while staying in L.A..

What we’re looking at right now:

  • Highway One
  • Yosemite National Park
  • Kings Canyon
  • Death Valley
  • Grand Canyon

We’re also thinking about flying to Cancun / Mexico or Hawaii while we’re there. Not sure whether whether this makes sense.

So what’s my question here? I’d like you to suggest places worth visiting, best routes, any suggestions really.
