Can I claim EU flight delay compensation if I rebook the outward ticket to another date?

My flight will be delayed by 48h.

I’m considering changing the outward flight to another date, but I’m worried I won’t be able to claim EU compensation if I do this? Is this something that could have implications?

In addition I’d have to change another flight with another airline, I would hope to claim the ‘change date fee’ (that I’m being charged for) this as well (even though it’s technically possible for this flight to be taken even after the 48h delay). Would this be possible?

If anyone could point me to any official resources that would be helpful too.
