apt install php7.1-curl depends libcurl3 but I have libcurl4 installed

There does seem to be some other related questions to this issue but I want to ask my own to give it more content specific to my situation, if it helps diagnose the problem and how to correct it.

I have multiple versions of PHP installed: sudo update-alternatives --config php lists:

  0 /usr/bin/php7.3 73 auto mode 1 /usr/bin/php5.6 56 manual mode * 2 /usr/bin/php7.1 71 manual mode 3 /usr/bin/php7.2 72 manual mode 4 /usr/bin/php7.3 73 manual mode

I am trying to use PHP 7.1 for a project, and I need to get curl installed. The problem is that it keeps failing install due to dependency issues.

I can’t install libcurl3 because it isn’t available (and it probably isn’t wise to do so considering libcurl4 is already installed).

libcurl4 is already the newest version (7.64.0-1).

I have tried different PHP versions and tried installing the curl extension for each, as well as php-curl (generally) as well. To no avail.

Does anyone have a solution?

Definitive Hardware book updated with the last trends

I have to freshen up my HW knowledge and I was looking for something to read in my Kobo, so possibly in epub form, but I would go also for the paper form if nothing is available.. I studied classic HW architecture books, but now I need a general overview of the various differences between all the types of CPUs, RAMs, HD/ SSD, buse, video boards s and so on. Not looking for general concepts but for the description of the specific HW architectures: how’s the I7 different compared to I5, what’s the difference between DDR 3 vs DDR 4 etc.. possibly with some historical context. Ideally this book would explain everything also from the point of view of a programmer, like: for which application is better using SSD over HD, and so on.. If not a single resource, it would be totally fine also if I can get this info from 2 or more books. Last case scenario, I hope there is at least a website.. if not, please guys write this book ! Cheers

Please suggest how and “what order” I should install Slackware, FreeBSD & Solaris on a p4 machine

I want to install Slackware 14.2, FreeBSD and Solaris 10 on a p4 machine but multiboot is not working as lilo overwrites grub and btx boot loader can’t detect others. I had to boot slackware and Solaris with the installation disc for a good number of times. I installed all boot loaders on MBR. The following is the partition layout on an IDE disc; /device/sda1 20G /dev/dsk/c0d0s0 20G /dev/ad0s1 20G Please suggest how and “what order” I should install these OSs

Samba permissions, specific user to subfolder only

I have two users: “pi” and “austria”. Both users are in group www-data, which group is the owner of /mnt and can’t be modified, as it’s hosted. I want to separate the permissions in the samba. User pi to have permissions of the whole mount point /mnt/EXHDD1TB and user “austria” to have permissions only to the subfolder of /mnt/EXHDD1TB/ called “Movies”, without the upper folder. My current smb.conf is the bellow one, but with this config user “austria” has access to everything, not only to the specific folder. Can you please help

[Movies] comment = External Drive path=/mnt/EXHDD1TB/Movies valid users = austria force group = www-data writeable = yes create mask = 0660 force create mode = 0110 directory mask = 0770 browseable = no [All] comment = External Drive path=/mnt/EXHDD1TB/ valid users = pi, austria force group = www-data writeable = yes create mask = 0660 force create mode = 0110 directory mask = 0770 browseable = no

linux image that contains only the bare minimum like terminal and base apps?

I am looking for a linux image that can be installed on a small footprint, and that include the basics only, so no graphic server or any other graphic app. fundamentally I want an image that is able to run terminal, has the basic package manager to install new packages; and is able to act as “build environment”, so I can basically compile and run Python and C++ code.

Is there such image already available somewhere? If not, how can I learn how to make such image?
