How to monitor network traffic of host OS through guest OS VM? [on hold]

I want to monitor network traffic of my host OS (Windows 10) through my guest OS (Ubuntu 16.04 VM). i.e. inspecting packets while the host is surfing the web. I’m using VMWare Workstation 10.
As far as I know, I need to set my VM’s network connection to bridged and also set my host’s default gateway address to the IP address of my VM.
On guest, I’ve enabled port forwarding from /etc/sysctl.conf by uncommenting net.ipv4.ip_forward=1 and then I reset the service by sysctl -p /etc/sysctl.conf. I’ve also set the default gateway of my host manually to the IP address of my VM.
At this point, my host can ping gateway successfully and my guest has Internet access but my host cannot access the Internet (receiving request timeout while pinging 8.8.8.8 on host whereas ping receives replies successfully on the guest).
