Searching Contacts yields very long list of duplicates

When I search for some strings in the Contacts app (version 3.5.7.243634183) on my Nokia 7.1 running Android (One) 9, I get a very long list where the same contact is listed a zillion times:

Is this a known issue? Is there a solution?
