no connection with Broadcom BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN wireless card

Since I installed Lubuntu 18.04.3 recently (on a Lenovo 3000 N-100 notebook) I have no wireless connection. I’ve read several previous AskUbuntu questions. Regarding the first answer to the AskUbuntu question at https://askubuntu.com/questions/55868/installing-broadcom-wireless-drivers, I believe I followed the section titled Installing The Package (Online). There is still no wireless connection. Here is a current screenshot of the system tool Software and Updates. enter image description here

If you can help with suggestions, please make them clear and complete, step-by-step, without unnecessary assumptions/jargon/etc as I’m relatively new to Linux, and my awareness of system architecture and software is quite limited. Thank you.

Broadcom BCM5764M Gigabit Ethernet won’t connect at Gigabit speed

I’ve got an HT Z600 with the intergrated ethernet 5764 PCIe LOM controller.

When I check advertised speed with sudo ethtool enp1s0 I can see advertised link modes of 10,100,1000baseT, half and full duplex.

When I plug in the cable, ‘wired settings’ shows an attempt to connect at 1000 MB/s, then shows ‘cable disconnected’ then another attempt to connect.

When using a different (older) router the same thing would happen, but after a number of attempts it would connect at 100 MB/s. With two newer switches it just attempts to connect at 1000 and never succeeds.

I can make it connect by only advertising 10,100 speeds using sudo ethtool -s enp1s0 advertise 0x004 and it will immediately connect at 100 MB/s.

When I search for similar problems, almost every time it was caused by a faulty cable. I’ve bought a switch with speed indicators and tested every cable is cat5e and shows as gigabit speed when both ends are plugged into that switch. I’ve also tested that the cable gives gigabit speed and the network behaves normally when plugged between two different switches. I’ve checked every port on both switches gives gigabit speeds.

Here’s my attempt to gather info:

updated /etc/default/grub to add GRUP_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="iommu=soft" then sudo update-grub and reboot. No difference that I can see. > sudo ethtool -s enp1s0 speed 100 duplex full ... works and immediately connects at 100. > sudo ethtool -s enp1s0 speed 1000 duplex full ... switches between "connecting" and "cable disconnected", shows the "link is up/link is down" messages from the dmesg output above. > sudo ethtool -K enp1s0 highdma (on/off) No difference that I can see.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

Ubuntu 18.04 WiFi problem (Broadcom BCM43142)

My laptop is HP Pavilion 15 p077. I cannot use my internal WiFi adapter very well. When I’m entering in other rooms, my WiFi is not connecting. So I bought TP link TL-WN725N. But problem is not gone. When I used Windows, I used my WiFi. What’s the problem? I didn’t found my solution in any of topics.

How can I use either internal or external WiFi adapter without any problem?

Output of lspci -nnk | grep -A3 0280:

HP 2140 with Broadcom wireless card not working fully

I’m a newby.

Got ubuntu 16.04 on an old HP2140 BUT I cannot get the wifi card working fully.

I CAN get it to provide Bluetooth capability. If i enter “rfkill unblock all” into a terminal then the blue light on the front comes on and it gives Bluetooth functionality .

I CANNOT get it to act as a wifi card. I’ve tried installing drivers but then they don’t appear in additional drivers.

Using “lspci” with no filters returns a long list of hardware but not the Broadcom.

This though: “lspci -vvnn | grep Network” returns nothing.

Both mean I can’t be more specific about the card I have.

It may well be I’m missing something obvious or not. I can see that the Broadcom kit is a know problem but not knowing which exact version I have makes it difficult.

HELP! PLEASE!

Andy

How to Install Drivers for Broadcom BCM5720 Ethernet controller driver on ubuntu 16.04

I have come to a strange situation wherein none of my Ethernet network card are listed when i do ifconfig -a or Ipaddr , Although good thing is i can see the hardware listed when i do lspci and lshw -c network but it shows as UNCLAIMED in the list.

on further diagnosis i see that no drivers are listed when i do lspci -v.

i have been through many forums looking for the answer and have also tried modprobe tg3 to enforce the drivers but didnt work.

i would appreciate if anyone could help with a way i can install drivers and get going without a reinstall. I suspect this error is due to the upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04

kindly excuse incase i am not specific with my question.

Thanks in advance,

ravi,

Bluetooth Automatically Pairs with “Broadcom Bluetooth Device”

I’m experiencing a very annoying issue (Mojave 10.14.1).

When I am staying at a hotel (which I do frequently for work), my computer constantly pairs with devices called “Broadcom Bluetooth Device”. It doesn’t just discover them – it automatically pairs with them and immediately interferes with legitimate connections to my AirPods or other bluetooth headphones. It breaks and chops the audio into complete, unintelligible, stuttering uselessness.

enter image description here

I have to manually disconnect these things every 1-2 minutes.

I’ve looked for a few solutions:

  • One mentions turning Handoff “off”. My Handoff is, in fact, off.

  • Another mentions that this issue only crops up when a browser window is open; this happens to me regardless.

  • Another mentions using Terminal to ‘sudo write’ the DontPageAudioDevices value in the bluetooth .plist file in my library to ‘1’. I have done this, and it fixed the problem partially: the connections to this device have become less frequent, and my computer will automatically disconnect after a few seconds, but usually not quick enough to prevent it from disrupting my audio just the same.

I’m running out of places to treasure hunt for a solution. I don’t know why my computer is so stubbornly determined to connect to these random, unknown devices to the point of disrupting fundamental user experience.

Does anybody have a legit solution to force my computer to cease this behavior? This seems like a massive bug that doesn’t have a lot of attention. Any help is appreciated.

My robust broadcom wifi card interferes with my graphic card

I have a robust AC1900 Dual band Wii Card. Its signal is very strong and this causes interference with my AMD RX-650 card, although I had put the in as far slots as possible on mainboard. When using the card normally there is no problem. But when using DLNA or AirDrop services, the screen gets flicker and eventually off an on again and absolutely unusable! How can I fix the problem without making the card signal too weak and reducing the transfer speed significantly?
