AMD GPU crashing when playing game

I have a problem on my Ubuntu 18.04 machine. I recently upgraded my GPU to a RX 580 from a GTX 960, but now it seems to crash every time I’ve played a game for a bit. This time interval isn’t consistant, it can vary from after a few minutes up to an hour. When the crash happens, the screen freezes, but the rest of the system is still running. I can still do stuff like REISUB and SSH into the machine.

My kernel version is 4.15.0-51-generic and my graphics driver is X.Org Radeon RX 580 Series (POLARIS10, DRM 3.23.0, 4.15.0-51-generic, LLVM 7.0.0) Version 4.4 (Compatibility Profile) Mesa 18.2.8.

I have tested some games, and here is the ones I have found to be crashing: Hearts Of Iron IV, Starcraft (Running on WINE), XCOM 2, Dirt Rally and Project Cars 2 (Running on Proton). I have also not been able to make Minecraft or Rimworld crash. I don’t know if this will help, but here you go.

Things I’ve tried so far include removeing the nvidia driver, reinstalling the mesa-vulkan-driver and ubuntu-desktop, but this didn’t help with the issue. Can anyone recommend any solutions? The graphics card isn’t overheating either, running below 70 degrees at all time. Thank you for any answers!

MySQL crashing after getting queried by Grafana dashboard

I have a small VPS with Centos 7. This is running django using MySQL as the database, and it’s also running Grafana which reads from MySQL.

When I open my grafana dashboard, the MySQL server instantly crashes. Sometimes it comes back up and other times it gets stuck in a “server starting” state.

I tried to check the logs but I have found nothing useful and my experience with MySQL is limited, so maybe there’s somewhere else to check that I don’t know about.

YouTube keeps crashing on Safari

It’s been a while since YouTube has been crashing while playing long videos on Safari. In particular, a noisy grey screen appears with the error message “An error has occurred, please try again later”.

This is very annoying as the only thing I can do is refresh the webpage and start the video again.

Is there a solution to this issue?

Pixel Launcher crashing due to missing STATUS_BAR and MANAGE_ACTIVITY_STACKS permissions

I’m running LineageOS 16 on a OnePlus 3T. Whenever I try to open the Pixel Launcher, it crashes. In adb logcat, I saw the following lines that looked relevant:

05-25 16:13:31.293 16356 16356 W TaskStackChangeListeners: java.lang.SecurityException: Permission Denial: registerTaskStackListener() from pid=16356, uid=10003 requires android.permission.MANAGE_ACTIVITY_STACKS 05-25 16:13:31.476 16356 16356 E AndroidRuntime: java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to resume activity {com.google.android.apps.nexuslauncher/com.google.android.apps.nexuslauncher.NexusLauncherActivity}: java.lang.SecurityException: Permission Denial: setShelfHeight() from pid=16356, uid=10003 requires android.permission.STATUS_BAR

I tried running these commands to fix the problem:

adb shell pm grant com.google.android.apps.nexuslauncher android.permission.MANAGE_ACTIVITY_STACKS adb shell pm grant com.google.android.apps.nexuslauncher android.permission.STATUS_BAR

However, they failed:

java.lang.SecurityException: Package com.google.android.apps.nexuslauncher has not requested permission android.permission.MANAGE_ACTIVITY_STACKS java.lang.SecurityException: Package com.google.android.apps.nexuslauncher has not requested permission android.permission.STATUS_BAR

I searched for this and found a post on XDA with someone having the same problem: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/pa-gapps-continuation-t3098071/post77695616#post77695616

Responses weren’t very useful though. They basically boiled down to “your ROM is broken; ask your ROM developer to fix it.”

So how can I fix this crash?

Why “visual studio code” keeps crashing my Windows 10?

I have just started using Microsoft Visual Studio Code.

I have setup terminal to use WSL Ubuntu.

Microsoft have done a tremendous job on this. I have some extensions working very well, such as GitLens, Docker.

So here is the issue I am facing, 1. I opened a terminal WSL Ubuntu in VisualStudioCode. 2. I did git clone of my Ansible PB repo. 3. I just ran the Ansible PB and Windows crashed with blue screen.

I rebooted and ran the same Ansible playbook, the crash is consistent. Seems its only with some of the playbook. When I used connection=paramiko no issues.

Has anyone encountered this issue?
