Link for username in People and Groups leads to 404 error

On any site in our on-prem installation (SP 2016), if I go into “People and Groups” and click on the link for any given user, I get dropped into a 404 error page.

The username URLs follow this pattern:

http://{sitename}/{subsite path}/_layouts/listform.aspx?PageType=4&ListId={some GUID}

I am one of the members of the Central Admin group and can make adjustments in CA. But, I don’t want to just go clicking wildly. Any guidance on where username hyperlinks are supposed to go and how to repair broken links?

Thanks!

Trying to install dual boot leads to glitched screen: “Couldn’t get size”

I recently bought a Lenovo Legion Y740 laptop. It came with Windows 10 and I want to install Ubuntu as a dual boot.

I am trying to boot from a USB where I have a 18.04.3-desktop-amd64.iso image. Whenever I boot it, I get the black screen with a list of options and chose to “Install Ubuntu”. Right after, my screen goes black and get a “Couldn’t get size: 0x000000000000000a” message. Then the rest of the screen begins to get ‘glitchy’ prints. However, I still hear the Ubuntu startup sound from the speakers.

I have done this once before on another laptop and had no problems. I have no idea what it could be. I’ve heard Nvidia and Ubuntu don’t do great together and the installer says AMD. Could it be this? My other laptop where it worked had no GPU, however this one has a RTX 2070 MaxQ.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Nil

Why does arithmetic left shift of negative number leads to positive number?

According to this Wikipedia article, when arithmetic left shift operation is applied to a signed number, the number is multiplied by 2. But there are certain situations where a negative number becomes a positive number when an arithmetic left shift is applied.

Eg.: Take a 2’s complement signed integer -5 and 5 bits are used to represent it.

11011 ==> -5 10110 ==> -10 (-5x2) 01100 ==> +24 (?)

So after two arithmetic left shifts -5 became 24. I expected -20. Why is this the case?

Attempting to install 18.04 leads to neverending errors

I had a laptop running 16.04 for some time, and it served me well while traveling. I just pulled it out again after not using it for about a year, and on booting it reminded me “Hey jerk, 18.04 has come out since I last booted, time to update!” This sounded very reasonable to me and I tried to do so. The update went through the night, and stalled out somewhere along the way while installing packages. With no other options available, I made mistake #1, and killed the power.

Obviously this was the wrong choice, as I couldn’t boot into the OS after doing that. No big deal, I figured, I’ll just make a bootable thumb drive and install fresh. And so I did, and so I tried to do. This may or may not have been mistake #2.

Which leads us to now. Any attempt to install, either upon connecting to a wireless network or choosing to continue without connecting to one, leads directly to a never ending high speed list of what appears to be the same or very similar errors, going by too quickly to read in full, but I can catch the beginning”

“pcieport 0000:00:1c.5”.

As it kindly counts the errors for me, I can see that it’s counted up over 700 million in the time it took me to write this post, with no sign of stopping. I can run directly off the bootable thumb drive, so if there are any solutions available, I am all ears.
