Encrypted folder with different access rights for different users

With the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation of EU) comes the necessity for many companies to store certain personal data (CVs, certificates, passport copies, etc.) centrally and encrypted. The data is available e.g. as Word or PDF files, in our case altogether 2000-3000 files distributed on 10 -15 directories.

The filing must take place encrypted, to prevent also IT administrators from access, and centrally, so that the information or deletion request of affected persons can be followed.

That means that only a few people must be able to see/delete all data in the encrypted folder, whilst others only have access to their data stored in subfolders.

How can these requirements be fulfilled with a system, if possible with on-board means from Windows Server or a simple software?

According to my research EFS or Bitlocker are not usable, because either the rights can only be set to single files or no different rights within a container are provided.

I am very grateful for suggestions.

Unable to mount windows share with write rights on Debian

I’m unable to mount Windows 2016 Server Core share with write rights on Linux Debian 9.9

Share settings in Windows (“pl:Wszyscy” means “Everyone”, Listed users have same permissions as “Everyone”)

Share is accesible from my Windows 10 machine, I’m able to read/add/edit/remove files. From linux machine I’m only able to read.

I tried every command listed below in /etc/fstab file, “sudo mount -a” and/or reboot after every change.

Is there a crosswalk of SharePoint add-in permissions description to their *actual* rights granted?

I’m a Sharepoint Farm Admin, and am in charge of permission reviews for requested Sharepoint add-ins. In the past, we have judged certain app requests as too permissive and denied them based on the description-only from the request itself.

My issue is our group does not fully agree upon what each description means. Therefore our assessments are inconsistent.

Example 1: “Let it access basic information about the users of this site”

(1) What basic information? userid, displayname, email, but not what…manager?

(2) Microsoft loosely switches between calling site collections “sites” and site/subsite “webs”. So will that mean users of the site collection or the subsite level?

I understand about policies UserOnly AppOnly, User+App; but since we only have access to the text description in the App Store, when is which policy applied?

Example 2: “Let it create or delete document libraries and lists in this site collection.” (DOCUSIGN FOR SHAREPOINT)

The implication is that is User+App based on other “Let it…” permissions. But because it is for signing documents, doesn’t feel right that it would require the USER to have list management rights to function as expected.

Selling my rights for my script [on hold]

I have been working on a script for a 3D program for some guy. And he says now that he would like to have the script and sell it to the people he reaches with his courses on the internet.

Since I have never dealt with selling my right to my own script. How much can I charge for it?

So far only a sum for me writing the script so he can use it, but not sell it, has been set. What are some standards for that? The price we have agreed on only for delivering the script times 5? Maybe times 10?

Ubuntu 18.04 xRDP restricted user’s rights

I set up and subsequently upgraded a fresh install of Ubuntu 18.04.02, minimal version, with LVM. On that I installed xRDP with the help of Griffons install-Script version 2.4 (see the Blog with descritpion of the script).

The installation worked fine and RPD is available, but now I have an other issue:

The client is thought to be used by a normal user (non-root-user): He/She should power-on the system (at the machine itself), insert a usb-flashdrive and than log-in via RDP (from Windows-Clients) to transfer data to the network.

This works all fine (automount of flashdrive and access to shared folder) as long as the user is logged into the machine directly via keyboard attached. However, the very same user does not have the users’ rights to mount (or automount is not working) the flashdrive when logged in via RDP – just as little as to shutdown or restart the system via RDP. To me, it feels as if permissions are missing via RDP.

Changing settings on fstab did not help (tried a lot of variations). Using usbmount either. Again, as long as the same non-root-user is using the system “directly”, all that is possible.

Do you have an idea how to fix that? Or is that a limitation with using xRDP?`
