Are there any risks in using an error tracking solution like Sentry in production (web)?

We are planning to use Sentry error tracking solution for our web application, both in the front and back end (PHP)

We would use the on premise version, and have it run in one of our servers, then send error / crash reports using the PHP client library inside the web app.

Some colleagues are having concerns that it might not be a good idea to use it in production, the main fear is it might itself cause bugs or slowdowns that would be hard to identify, and have thus suggested to keep its usage for development environment only.

Have you had any experience with such solutions? if so, would you advise on using it in production?
