Install alongside win7 what partitions do I need to set?

I’ve got a 40gb unallocated partition on my c: drive. Might be a bit much but it’s ok.
I’m looking to install Ubuntu 19 I’ve seen on some guides that I need to define swap and root stuffs. I’m a linux baby so I really don’t know whats actually needed.
Definitive answer?
16gb Ram, not worried about hibernate if that matters.

win7, process of file sharing

I want to detect which process (like svchost.exe) in windows-7 is responsible for file sharing and set it’s priority to high.
The problem is that a hardware media player, connected to shared windows folder, sometimes lags when I use chrome or some java IDE.
How can I detect the process to set it’s priority or is there any other way, e.g. playing with HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\PriorityControl\Win32PrioritySeparation?
Thanks.

Cant see any of my hardrives or externals with win7

When I open windows explorer, none of my drives appear. I’ve tried the “organize” and folder options route. I had some malware a while back that i was able to remove but thats when this started happening. This malware also wouldnt let me install any of the popular virus scanners, but I was able to finally get one to work. Also when I tried installing norton, which never worked, it put a folder on my desktop (the norton installer) but never correctly installed. But when I click that folder, it takes me to windows explorer and I can see all my drives normally. However, when I try to install a new piece of software I am unable to select any drive or see them, so it’s a problem still.

RDP from Win7 to Win10 doesnt work – from Win10 to Win7 works – GPO?

We are planning to switch our company’s machines from Win7 to Win10 in the near future. We have 2 available domains, lets call them domain1 and domain2. We use domain2 for our current enviroment and everything works fine. Domain1 has been created and never used, it was “just there” for experimental purposes which came to use some days ago.

So I’ve setup a Win10 VM, installed a Domain Controller and configured everything ensuring the domains can communicate with each other. Everything works fine, I can share files in-between i.e my machine and the Win10 VM. Now comes the problem.. we have many VMs where many Resins/Tomcats are running for several web applications.

We use the RDP provided by Microsoft to connect to the VMS, everything works fine. Also, I am able to connect from the Win10 VM to another Win7 machine, but not vice versa. The application just doesnt connect to the Win10 VM. As soon as I use a local user, it works perfectly, so it must be something with the GPOs or some options in the AD of the Win10 VM?

I must add that we havent used AD to setup our domains. We’ve always used SAMBA, so I must admit that the Microsoft solutions/tools are pretty new to me and maybe I oversee something.

What I tried to do so far (after hours of research):

- Disabling the Win10 firewall to ensure nothing is blocked - activated the RDP options on the Win10 VM and adding the relevant users to the trusted users list - edited the local computer policy and added the domain users to the list of "trusted users who can connect to this machine using RDP" - added the relevant users in the AD to ensure they are allowed to connect via RDP

Nothing works. Somehow I assume that I miss one or two clicks which allow the domain users to log in via RDP. When I try to login with lets say domain1\administrator:pw, it wont let me. When I use 192.168.0.XXX\administrator:pw, it instantly works. So it must be something with the AD/GPO settings which I cannot figure out.

You guys have an idea? <3

Windows 7 and 10 dual boot but on different partition (two different disk as well). Can I migrate my Win10 to the Win7 disk but different partition?

I have three disks: two HDDs and one¬†SSD. I¬†have Windows¬†10 installed on an HDD, so it’s pretty slow. I want to migrate Win10 to the SSD in which Windows¬†7 is installed (of course to an empty partition). Is this possible without ruining the Win7?

If the method above doesn’t work, it’s ok for me to delete Win7 partition and reinstall it after migration. However, I’m not sure if the “system reserved” would interference with this process. To my understanding, you can definitely do “disk to disk” mirror but I’m not sure if you can do “disk to partition” or even “partition to partition” mirroring.

Basically, the priority is to not reinstall Win10 (and applications in it) because it will be truly a pain of ass for me. (Took me a long time to set up the Win10).

The picture below illustrates what I want to do.

Win7: DirectX setup: A cabinet file nescessary cannot be trusted

‘A cabinet file necessary cannot be trusted. Please verify the Cryptographic Services are enabled and the cabinet file certificate is valid’

I am trying to use dxwebsetup to download directx and this is all i’m getting. I’ve heard that a faulty internet connection may have resulted in the files getting corrupted during transfer.

I want to hear what anyone has to say.

I have so far tried to unregister the Cryptographic services, but still no results.

Blocked websites on macOS host but not on Win7 virtual machine

In China there in the Great Firewall which blocks i.e. youtube. Fortunately in my university in China someway they provide access to youtube, so students can use youtube by means of campus wifi. I noticed on macOS I have to keep IPv6 configured to Automativally so it works (I can access youtube) most of the times.

Sometimes (very frequently) even with that configuration I cannot open youtube. I also noticed my Windows friends has much less of this problem, in Windows youtube works almost always.

Then I tried to run Windows 7 on a parallels virtual machine on macOS and bingo. Chrome in the vm loads youtube nicely.

On macOS host I tried Safari/Chrome/Firefox and none of them loads youtube.

How can this be explained?
